As for what of Castle’s observations made it into the book, the biggest thing is Kate’s (that is her name, by the way) motivation for being a detective. I rather wish we’d seen her on the show stealing Chinese leftovers or enjoying G-rated films, because it would’ve fleshed out the character more.
]]>So with the two thousand and six thing, it’s not like she said ‘two thousand six’ and ‘2008’ differently.
It was very specifically the prose and not the dialogue that was giving me trouble. Because that’s the part where I’m supposed to be following what’s going on. That’s the part that should be as clear as possible.
And yea, good point! You’d think they’d at least object to being called ‘Roach’. And was nobody talking about the naked fight scene? To my mind, the sex scene was nothing compared to that. Apart from the fact of who the sex scene involved.
]]>I also noticed the ‘two thousand six’ thing as being weird. What the heck?
I consider grammatical foibles to be untouchable if they’re put in dialogue and the -character- consistently speaks in such a manner. Of course, I also use the word ‘that’ all the freakin time and no doubt incorrectly. If it’s an important piece of writing I’ll go through and see how many I can pull out.
And I also wondered about the mom.
But the point I really wanted to comment on was the very valid one you bring up of why he hasn’t ICly gotten in more trouble over this book! There was one episode where they were talking about the sex scene, but there’s just so much more than this that would get him in trouble with people he knows. Why isn’t girl detective mad at him? Why hasn’t his daughter asked why she didn’t make the cut? Why haven’t the comic relief detectives teased him about the fact that he had Rook hook up with Nikki? The book needs more play on the show if they’re going to go to all the trouble of writing it!
