After an ok cheesesteak, the ship had managed to dock in Bermuda, so we headed down to the cabin and got ready to leave the ship.

The weather was fairly warm, probably low 70s, but it was overcast and it was spitting, with occasional bouts of actual drizzle. Still, I was so happy to get off the ship, and the weather was intermittantly nice, so we headed for Tobacco Bay, a nearby beach. It was perhaps a mile away, over a hill and through a golf course.

I was pretty warm by the time we got there, what with the walking uphill and all, and the water looked so nice. Tobacco Bay is sort of closed in by rocks and coral, so the ocean is only about waist/chest deep for quite a ways out from the beach, and it’s pretty calm besides. So I was eager to go in. E was not, because it seemed she wasn’t feeling well, and sat on the beach where the wind was blowing and the rain kept spitting on her.

But out in the water, it was nice. To the native Bermudans, the ocean was ridiculously cold, but to someone who grew up on the coast of New Hampshire, my reaction to it was more along the lines of OMG I’M IN THE OCEAN AND I CAN FEEL MY LEGS!!!11!1!.

So I walked out almost to the edge of the enclosed area and hung out there for a while. Carl came in too for a little bit. When I came back to the beach, E and Bob were pretty wet from the rain, and it was obvious that E wanted to go. So she and Carl left and Bob came in the water with me for a while. We splooshed about for some time before we decided we were getting hungry and wanted to head back to the ship. So we de-sanded ourselves and hiked back through St. George’s to the dock. Our original plan had been to clean up and then go explore the town a bit more, but the drizzle and the hunger put a damper on that ambition, so we didn’t end up doing that after all.

E and Carl were off to the pasta cafe that night, so Bob and I went to the other restaurant alone. I had something called a Limbo Salad, which was basically just a regular garden salad with pineapples instead of tomatoes. It was very tasty. After that and the jerk chicken, the two of us grabbed the daily crossword from the library and headed up to the buffet where we had some dessert and hung out and did the puzzle.

After we finished, we went back down to the cabin. E was in bed, still not feeling well, I think, and though we had plans to play cards again, in the end both E and Carl fell asleep. Bob and I played with the Game Boys and read books until eventually we just fell asleep too. So it turned out to be quite a lazy day, but that was sort of the point of the trip.

We slept in again on Tuesday, but got up in time to go to the restaurant for lunch with E and Carl.
