Which was convenient, since checkout was at 11, and the bus trip between the Sheraton and Salem proper was so very very slow that it was definitely necessary to check out before leaving.

So I slept/lounged about until 11, we threw our stuff in the car, and we headed off to Salem.

One unfortunate thing about Sunday was the fact that all of the interesting stuff (interesting to us, at least) didn’t really get underway until 5pm or later. And given that 1) I had to work at 9am on Monday, and 2) there was very little from 9am – 5pm on Sunday, that was just too late for us to stay. I do regret having missed the last night of the con, but I don’t regret not driving home at midnight.

Anyhow, given the distinct lack of interest piquing programming in the afternoon, only two things were on my agenda for Sunday: a visit to the art show, and a visit to the artists’ alley (or whatever they were calling it there). The show was a bit of a hike, up in the shopping district and past the PEM in the Old Town Hall. And I have to say it was a severe disappointment. Most of the pieces were gone when we got there, which annoyed me greatly — I can understand the art show being picked over by Sunday afternoon of a Friday-Sunday con; a lot of people skip out early on Sunday and the show tends to start breaking down that morning. But this was not Sunday afternoon of a Friday-Sunday con. It was Sunday afternoon of a Thursday-Monday con: there was a whole day left and the exhibit was toast. So, as I said: disappointment.

We wove our way in and out of shops as we made our way back toward the waterfront. Lots of touristy crap which I didn’t buy. This time we also avoided the scary claustrophobic bookstore.

Back at the Artists’ Alley, we found a very long line had formed waiting for sketches. I stood in the line for a little while, but sketches are a slow process and after about 10 or 15 minutes I bailed. It just was not worth it to stand there for 2 or 3 hours when one can commission a sketch, probably by the same people, online.

I diverted into the Costuming Workshop where J had gone to sit, and we listened to that for a while. It was interesting, though not particularly workshoppy, and the most useful information presented was websites where you could order various parts of the Harry Potter movie uniforms. One of the presenters was rather poor, also; she knew her stuff, judging by her outfit, but she had a very soft voice and refused to use the microphone.

After we got bored of the workshop, we walked back to where the bus would pick up. And there we waited. Having opened our visit to the con with a 45 minute bus wait, I guess it was only fitting that we end it the same. There was even semi-repeat of what happened on Friday morning: a bus came, but we could not get onto it. On Friday this was because there were too many people waiting, but this time it was because he was going out of service. He made a point to assure us, twice, that another bus would be along in 10 minutes. Ha ha. I’m not sure why he felt the need to lie to us, but lie he did, since the bus did not arrive for 35 minutes, meaning it was definitely up in Danvers when he said that to us.

Once back to the Sheraton, we got in the car and drove home. The end.

Sunday, though a full day at the con, didn’t actually really get underway with panels and things until noon.
