We’d been talking about going to The Witching Hour<\/a> for over a year. Of course, as such things tend to be, virtually everyone who had expressed an interest in going and assured us that they would be there (for sure!) did not come through, and so the only people who actually went were J and I. <\/p>\n

Anyhow, the con was theoretically 5 days, but after looking at the schedule, both Thursday and Monday looked pretty light; I determined they were skippable, which was a good thing, as I had to work both days.<\/p>\n

We made plans to go down on Friday morning, and then fate intervened, in the form of our @#$!@$! condo management company and their moronic handling of a repavement project.<\/p>\n

Step 1: Friday, September 30th, everyone on the street receives a flyer stating that ‘a company will be coming to rip up the curbs on Wed October 5th. Everyone’s cars will need to be out of the way by 7:30 AM. This will continue until the project is done.’ You’ll notice that there is no mention in here that the road will be repaved, or that this project includes anything more than the replacement of the curbs at everyone’s spaces.<\/p>\n

Step 2: Wednesday, October 5th, at about 6:30 AM, the workers arrive and start making a huge noise. There are, of course, a ton of cars still left on the road. The noise wakes me up around 7ish, but as it is not yet 7:30, I refuse to get up and move the car. Eventually Bob shifts the car across the street when he leaves for work.<\/p>\n

Step 3: Wednesday, October 5th, about noon, some dude from the management company comes around with new flyers. These state that all cars must be gone by 6:30 AM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. No arrangements have been made with any of the nearby businesses OR apartment complexes OR the town — the 50 odd cars that are normally parked on two streets in the complex will SOMEHOW have to fit into the approximately 6 Guest parking spaces on the 3rd and last street. <\/p>\n

Step 4: Thursday, October 6th, I have to work until 9pm. Naturally, by the time I get home, there are no Guest spaces left, and there are also no tiny spots left that could, in a pinch, be turned into pretend parking spots.<\/p>\n

Step 5: And so, J and I had to leave for the con at 6:30 AM on Friday. BRIGHT AND EARLY.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
