I was in Boston this morning with mom and Clara for something which I may talk about later.<\/p>\n
We finished with that by 11:30, far sooner than I expected, and went to lunch over in Quincy Market. We ended up eating at Cheers (their suggestion, not mine) and it was about as lousy as I expected. I had a portobello mushroom sandwich which was very decidedly average. It was slathered in meunster cheese and accompanied by 3 very indifferent slices of tomato and a leaf of lettuce. (And some onion, but I took that off.) Herbs or cooking the mushroom a little longer would have made a huge difference to the flavor. And perhaps not quite so many tomatoes.<\/p>\n
After we were done, they went to get mom’s car and I headed back to the T. It was at this point that I realized, after we decided not to meet at Alewife, it was stupid of me not to just drive in to the city myself and park. But for some reason the idea never even occurred to me until just then. <\/p>\n
In any case, belatedly brilliant ideas aside, I decided it was really nice out and as I hate the green line with a passion, I would walk down the street to Charles\/MGH instead of taking the Govt Center train to Park Street and switching back.<\/p>\n
While it was nice, it was also very warm, and though I never quite got to the point where I regretted the walk, I was feeling very sweaty and uncomfortable as I passed the last few shops before the rotary where the 24-hour CVS is. It was at this point that I saw a girl in a blue shirt walking up the sidewalk from the other direction. A girl who looked strangely familiar to me.<\/p>\n
And suddenly she said my name. Squealing and oh my goodness, what a random encounter noises ensued. It was a girl from my high school, S., who I hadn’t seen in pretty nearly exactly 10 years. (To differentiate from another, more likely S. from HS, this S’s father was a teacher at the school.) We had a quick exchange (she’s living up on Beacon Hill, working part time at the moment, being between jobs as so many of us are…), and that was that. It was very strange. I think this was the most I have talked to her in my life. She wasn’t a math person, but she was in the honors\/AP track for the liberal arts side of things, so I knew her. But only just. She was from one of the 3 other towns that fed into my HS, so I didn’t know her from junior high, and she tended to hang out with kids I more or less liked, but didn’t know very well.<\/p>\n
