They were forced to leave their vehicles in the city and so now are travelling by foot. Hagrid produces a cell phone from his butt and announces the team can use it to communicate as they walk around on the world map.

They travel slowly, having random encounters along the way, until we reach the town of Kalm. At this point, everyone rushes to the inn for a gigantic <strike>orgy</strike> infodump. Hagrid is confused. Are we surprised? What is surprising is that Harry seems to have actual information. He tells his story.

Five years ago he and <strike>Voldemort</strike> <strike>Sephiroth</strike> Tom Riddle came to the town of Nibelheim. This happens to be the town where Harry and Hermione grew up. (At which point Hermione starts to get that OMG he’s telling it wrong look, but manages to refrain from jumping in.) They were going to investigate some oddities with Nibelheim’s Mako Reactor. Once they arrived at the town, they decided to rest for the afternoon and set off early the next morning. Harry spent the rest of the day breaking into peoples’ bedrooms, reading their private correspondence and stealing things out of their closets. Then he went back to his own house where he was fussed over by mummy and went to sleep.

The next day our little gang of Shinra employees set off, with Hermione and Hermione’s dad as their guides into the mountains beyond the town. (Discrepancy #1: If Harry was there, why did they need a guide? But naturally no one asks this question.) They head up to the Mako Reactor and, after nearly getting themselves killed after a rope bridge collapses in a spectacular fashion, they arrive. They find that monsters are being bred inside the reactor. Tom starts acting rather odd and goes into the back room, conveniently marked ‘Jenova’ over the door.

Back at the Inn, people slowly register that Jenova is the same thing that they think just wrought bloody havoc at Shinra HQ.

5 years ago, it still had a head. Tom communes with it a bit and then has a mental collapse. He retreats into the mansion at the edge of town, reading a lot of books and refusing to come out, even after Harry goes to talk to him. Later, he kills Hermione’s father and slashes Hermione herself, sending Harry into a rage. Harry attacks! But is not killed! Unfortunately the rest of the denizens of <strike>Godric’s Hollow</strike> Nibelheim aren’t so lucky. Voldemort has destroyed the entire town and killed everyone in it.

The group at the inn recoil in horror at the carnage. Hermione is not impressed by Harry’s tale and seems to disagree with some of his details. But we pay no attention to her misgivings and plunge onward.

With little to go on we proceed to the only new location we can get to: a Chocobo farm to the south. After being royally ripped off by a small boy in the matter of purchasing a new type of magic, we capture a ride and cross the eel infested waters nearby.

Next: Giant Birds! Dolphins!
