Nothing seems quite long enough to deserve its own entry.

However, I did come up with something. I finally realized why my very oldest files were not being read by Word — which is that they weren’t WordPerfect files, as I had been thinking, but they were actually WordStar files. For some reason Word, even though it claims to have a converter for that filetype, does not actually read them correctly. So I found a very crappy converter program and managed to get one of the files fixed; I’m going to search for another before I do the rest.

So I present to you all part 1 of my 5th grade epic, “Jessica and Beth”.
(Don’t blame my 10 year old self for any spelling errors. The converter program’s trial mode purposely introduces them so you’ll pay for it — I went through and fixed most of them, but some probably slipped past.)

Jessica Harper was sitting at the window staring out. It was summer vacation and she was bored. She was trying to think of something to do. Closing her eyes she tried to imagine herself someplace else, anywhere but her boring old house. Aha! here’s a good place to be she thought to herself. Suddenly the doorbell rang. “Oh darn!” She said, “I’m coming!” The doorbell rang again. “Keep your hair on!” She yelled.

“Would you please answer the door honey!” shouted her mom from the kitchen.

“Shut up mom,” said Jessica under her breath.

Jessica answered the door, it was her best friend Beth. Beth was 12 and going to start 6th grade when school started. Jessica was also starting 6th grade but she was only 11.

Beth and Jessica had been friends for years. During those years they had had quite a few adventures together.

“What do you want to do?” Asked Jessica after they had come out.

“I don’t know.” Beth answered, “I was going to ask you the same question.” Jessica giggled, so did Beth.

When they stopped they saw a crowd of people gathering on the other side of the street. There were also 2 men sneaking away. The men turned into an alley and disappeared. They then walked over to the crowd. Someone had fainted and someone was lying on the ground bleeding to death. Jessica was very surprised that no one had called an ambulance. Everybody was just standing around staring.

Soon a policeman came by and saw the person on the ground (who was dead by now).

“Who did this?” Asked the policeman sternly.

“We don’t know” said everyone everyone except Jessica.

“Do you know who did this little girl?” asked the policeman.

“No I’m not positive but there were 2 men sneaking off a little while ago. They might have had something to do with it.” Snapped Jessica who was very mad about being called little girl.

“Well I doubt that they did girlie. You know that I know that little gals like you have vivid imaginations.” Said the policeman nervously (Jessica could tell he was nervous because he said that last line very quickly).

“You shouldn’t have said that” said Beth glancing over at Jessica who was getting madder every second.

Tune in tomorrow to find out what Jessica will do!

In my quest to complete things this weekend, I have so far finished watching the GTO live action drama (including the special) and Hameln no violin hiki anime (which has been sitting on my hard drive since last summer).
