Gee. Took them long enough.

The article is inflammatory, throwing around words like porn and obscenity like they actually applied here. But what really ticks me off, is this continued insistence by people ‘discovering’ the fact that slash/yaoi/shounen ai is a genre predominantly written BY women and FOR women that there’s got to be some deeper psychological reason to it. “Oh, they’re acting out their male-female fantasies in a safe way” “Oh, they can’t see males and females as equal partners, so they get rid of the gender politics”. Ummmmmmm. No. Why is it universally accepted that (straight) men are interested in and will be turned on by fantasized lesbian sex, yet turning that inside out is somehow mind boggling and impossible to comprehend?

PUH-LEAZE

I am a little bit amused by the flap, because it’s clear that some people do get it. The episode of Will & Grace they reran last Thursday had Karen practically falling all over herself to get more of Jack’s gay romance novel (Hmm. For m/f pairings they’re usually called bodice-rippers, but what would you call it if none of the characters is wearing a bodice to begin with?)

Toshi: Hey, I wear a bodice!

So a few days ago there was posted to MSNBC.com an article about the fact that WB has discovered Harry Potter slash.
