Bob<\/a> has given a pretty good impression of the concert himself, so I encourage everyone to go and read that.<\/p>\n

The concert took place at the Casino Ballroom, a venue which, in spite of having lived in Hampton for most of my life, I had only entered once before — and that for five minutes, when I was in search of a summer job the year between High School and college. They had none, and I left.<\/p>\n

Our tickets were the cheapest seats available, which meant they weren’t even seats — they were ‘gallery’, which meant that we might be able to find seats at the tables on the outskirts of the main floor, or we might not. We were fortunate in that we got there just barely early enough to snag two seats at a table with another couple. They were nice and pretty talkative; I was unfortunately not in one of my social moods, and I’m sure they thought I was either rude or very dull, but Bob managed to keep up the conversation for a while until the concert finally began.<\/p>\n

Things started with a comedian who was only semi-funny, but that’s the risk you tend to run with stand up. He relied a bit too much on scatalogical humor for my tastes. When you’re reduced to making Ex-Lax jokes, you’re really reaching. In any case, his set only lasted about 20 minutes and then the stage was abandoned again for another 25.<\/p>\n

Weird Al finally came on at about 8:45, and played until about 11. It was a good long concert, with the costume changes covered by video interludes, for which I was grateful. It’s a shame that they did not run those in the period between the comedian and the start of the actual concert. Bob’s covered the actual music, so I won’t really go into that here; I’m a ‘good audience’ in that I tend not to notice flaws or things of that nature unless they’re really glaring, so as a critic I’m not good on mechanics.<\/p>\n

We managed to escape pretty quickly after the concert and things went well until we got back onto route 3, which was closed between Chelmsford and Tyngsboro. Bleh. That delayed us a good 15 minutes while we were detoured through traffic onto the back roads.<\/p>\n
