I will sum up.

Pre-Christmas: Many things happened. E and Carl and Okina and I went to see Beauty and the Beast at the Colonial. I had purposely refrained from watching the animated version on DVD so I would not be burned out on it when I went to see the musical. Overall, it was pretty good. For some reason they chose to up the Gaston/LeFou slash factor about 150% (I was not the only one to notice this) and there were also several other adaptations forced upon them by the small stage, but they did the best with what they had. Still, I think maybe the tickets were a bit overpriced for the production they were able to put on. Earlier that same day I had to go out with my mom and brothers to Keene, for part 2 of the Family Christmas(TM). This one was less deadly than the first round (which involved 16 screaming, hyperactive children only one of whom was related to me, and one very excited puppy) and I escaped intact for the evening in Boston.

Christmas: Was good. For the first time ever, we did not get up until nearly 9am. Jeff is getting old! Presents were opened, roast beef was eaten, and a nap was had. I will pause here to comment on the Uncle Bill-ish tendencies of my other brother, who was throwing money around this year like the world was about to end. (Hmm…) He went in with us on a DVD/VCR combo for my mother, and then proceeded to buy her a fancy-schmancy printer/copier and a lot of other stuff. He also gave Jeff $250. o.O It was all a bit excessive, though I’m sure he was sincere about it all. He did not really think about what he was doing, however, and failed to purchase a USB cable for the printer, which means that it’s just sitting there uselessly until mom can go and get one.

Post-Christmas: Well, it started to snow in the afternoon, but Okina and I lingered at the house because it was too much of a pain to get moving. Thus, when we left at 4:30/45ish, it was snowing quite hard and it took us until 7pm to get home. We did not, however, pass any accidents or have any near misses ourselves. Aside from the snow (and it was WET, HEAVY snow — we had to stop twice and I got out to clear the windshield and the headlights) it was just a normal, if slow, ride home.

I’ve been kind of in an !blogging mood lately, perhaps because I’ve been overall too tired to post anything but mundane details of my life. And while that may be interesting to some people (god knows I spend enough time blog-surfing to realize that it can be), it feels redundant to me to write it up.

I read an article recently about how fake Trading Spaces is (I’ll find the article again and put up a link), and it was really interesting in a horrifying sort of way. Of course I knew it couldn’t be exactly how they portrayed it, but it’s much more fake and scripted than I imagined. Still, it’s entertaining. I’ve been watching too much of those sorts of shows. It makes me want to do home decorating, but I know that when we get a house, I won’t want to do it then. I told my mom she has to come down and help us with those kinds of things (perhaps it will motivate me more) and she said she would, so…

Mmm… I heard some interesting Christmas music which I found had a CD, so I’ve ordered that. I also bid on something on Yahoo Japan. It’s the first time I’ve ever done that without using a deputy service, but as the seller put that paying by International Money Order was ok, I felt that the fees those places charge simply weren’t justified. So I had to sign up for that and a yahoo.co.jp mail account, and I sent an email to a real live Japanese person. (Yeah, that sounds stupid, but it was a bit traumatic. I have low Japanese confidence.) I also had to send an email to a real live French person and didn’t find it as nerve-wracking at all.

So now at work, C, who is Japanese and usually does all the translation and things for our Japanese products, is in Japan on vacation until the middle of January. Then we got a lot of new fixes back from the client — all in Japanese. So I am attempting to translate them into English, with the help of several dictionaries and babelfish, which is a godsend.

No, it is too much.
