(Aside from the obvious food and business related direct imports. Sushi may be comprehensible to most Americans, but it&#8217;s not &#8216;derived&#8217; in the way that say, pulling from my Word-of-the-Day emails, &#8220;intransigent&#8221; is.<br \/><font size=\"-1\">Intransigent   is  from  French  intransigeant,  from  Spanish<br \/>intransigente,  from  in-,  &#8220;not&#8221;  (from Latin) + transigente,<br \/>present  participle  of transigir, &#8220;to compromise,&#8221; from Latin<br \/>transigere, &#8220;to come to an agreement,&#8221; from trans-, &#8220;across&#8221; +<br \/>agere, &#8220;to drive.&#8221;<\/font>)<\/p>\n<p>Now, I will admit, it&#8217;s unlikely that there are words in English that have evolved from Japanese over thousands of years like we have from Latin.  But words that have become English, yes, we have those.  For a long time, the only word I could ever think of was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/search?q=skosh\">skosh<\/a>.   But today I realized another one. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/search?q=honcho\">honcho<\/a>.  w00t!
