I have ton of stuff to do tonight, so of course I’m doing none of it just yet.<\/p>\n

I’ve been watching the advertisements for the new Clancy movie with some disgust, but I will quote here from the brunching shuttlecocks<\/a> who made the point I was thinking:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n

Now, a break for our sponsors. Two small CGI aliens walk into a glitzy futuristic space station. The interior looks like the Mos Eisley cantina turned into a trendy nightclub. The aliens cross the room and display what they’ve brought: an Intel Pentium processor. The other aliens gawk. What will they do with this amazing bit of silicon? Run the station’s computers? Power up the universe? Everyone waits with baited breath.<\/p>\n

And then they use it to run the stereo.<\/p>\n

And the moral of this story is that for most people, their computer is just a big stereo. Psst. Intel is making fun of you.<\/p>\n

Eight years ago, I read this book, and thought it would make a great movie. Too bad no one would ever make a movie about an aging hero who saves the world from Arab terrorists armed with a nuclear bomb.<\/p>\n

Now the aging hero is a young buck. The Arab terrorists have become neo-Nazis. And any resemblance to any book, living or dead, is now purely coincidental. Still, it’s a Jack Ryan movie, and they’ve done well over time, with or without Harrison Ford. Besides, don’t you think America is ready for another Jack Ryan “USA! USA!” movie right about now?<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
