In other news, I returned some books to B&N (duplicates from Christmas) and got some new ones. They’re very interesting, so I think I’ll post about them, but first I need to think things through a little longer. <\/p>\n

I haven’t been to or watched a movie for a while. There have been a few out which I didn’t get around to seeing, either, so it’s not just that there hasn’t been anything out to see. I feel like I should go out and do something this weekend. Actually, I probably will, as there are tentative plans to go out on Saturday. But I’ve been very stay-at-home for the past three or four weeks.<\/p>\n

I also made another shocking discovery today, which is that E had never heard of The Feminine Mystique<\/i><\/a>. She insinuated that I knew of it because I’d gone to a women’s college, but that isn’t the case. I know this for a fact, as I purchased and read the book while I was in high school, though I honestly cannot recall now where I first found out about it. I can’t remember ever not knowing about it — it is an extremely important book; if one were compiling a top ten of socially important books for the 20th century, it would be included.<\/p>\n

I suppose I shouldn’t be that shocked: it did its work, sparked the revolution, and now has faded into semi-obscurity. But it’s still valuable to read, even if it does show its age. It’s fascinating. And it’s not something I can entirely relate to, having grown up mostly in the 80s and 90s. I reread most recently last fall or late last summer — prior to starting the blog, or I’d have written about it, I think. If I read it again, I’ll have to talk about it, but I don’t think I can just go off on it without it fresh in my mind. But I will say that I think it’s a very important book and everyone should read it, if only to remind yourself of where we were only just a few years ago.<\/p>\n
