Tomorrow’s my little brother’s birthday, but my mom works Sundays, so I went up there tonight so we could go out to eat and have cake and stuff. While we were waiting for a table, we went into Best Buy and I picked up the HP OST along with a new game. It looked so cute, I just couldn’t help it. Okage: Shadow King. The character designs are very reminiscent of the Nightmare Before Christmas. Anyway, I’m going to take a break from FFT and play this first ’cause it’s NEW. <\/p>\n

The story opens with Ari and Annie’s mom cooking dinner. On the table sits a mysterious bottle that Ari’s dad brought home the other day. After Annie claims she has too much homework, Ari is sent off to the village to get a loaf of bread for dinner. On the way there he stops and talks to people — Annie, who lied through her teeth and is off with a boy; his “friends”, who tell him about the circus that’s taking place shortly, and Julia, who seems to have a crush on him. He also stops to talk to his father at the Town Hall. His father is the assistant manager of classification. Apparently, reports about every person in the village are sent to a central office, which then classifies them and sends back the results to the individual towns. It wasn’t really clear what this affected. Anyway, Ari then goes to get the bread and gets scolded by the Bakery woman for not being manly enough. His sister shows up after and does the same thing. Later, Annie leaves for the circus with her date and Ari is stuck listening to his father drone on and on about the bottle. He finally gets away only to get to the circus too late. Julia and one of the other boys are just leaving and go off together into the night. As Ari walks home, he hears a commotion ahead and finds a ghost attacking his sister. The ghost runs off when more people appear.<\/p>\n

Back at the house, the doctor delivers a grim verdict: Annie is cursed and there is no cure. The family gathers around to decide what to do. They can’t allow Annie to live with the curse of pig-latin for the rest of her life. She’ll be turned into comic relief, and that is not acceptable. Father has an idea, and everyone but Annie troops down to the basement, where dad has drawn a bunch of magic symbols on the floor. (!!). He does a little dance and says a spell and a ghost in a tux appears. He announces that he is the Evil Butler of the Evil King Stan, and if everyone agrees to give up their soul and become the slaves of Stan, Stan will break the curse on Annie. Ari is not allowed to choose for himself; his parents overrule his objections and everyone agrees to the terms. It then turns out that Stan, weakened by his imprisonment, will need to inhabit someone’s shadow in order to be freed, and that person whose shadow he takes over will become his minion. So the whole family again agrees, and a shadow pageant is held. Surprise, Ari wins. Stan possesses his shadow and everyone goes upstairs to see if Annie has been uncursed. She has. Except.. her shadow has been turned pink. She whines about it for a while.<\/p>\n

The next day, Ari wakes up, hoping it was all a dream. After he leaves the house, though, Stan and James appear, and Stan reveals his evil plan to rule the world. James is very enthusiastic, but goes to finish his breakfast while Ari takes Stan into the village to spread mayhem and terror.<\/p>\n
