03:09 ~ gaze at the moon

Watching more of The Gadget Show. They were in South Korea. Man, that country is scary! It's the best wired country in the world. They have a whole sport and two television channels dedicated to gaming. The show went to a robot fair where kids as young as six were assembling robots from Lego parts and programming them to do various things.

The cool bit is that the company that invented HD tv, LG, expects to have a working prototype of a holographic television by 2010! So you should all try to get rich enough to afford one by 2012 or so.

Yahoo Sucks. Not that this is news.

In your mail options, you can specify the width of your compose message window. I have it set at 85 characters. Yet when I go to compose a message, it gives me about 65. I tried this in Opera, Mozilla, and IE.

So I found Yahoo's feedback form. And believe me, that is not easy. It's impossible to find a TV listing feedback form, but the mail one is at least.. there.

My post:
In my preferences I have my compose text
window set to 85 characters width. But
when I go to compose a message, it's
only giving me about 65 characters. This
makes pasted text look really badly line
wrapped.

I'm using Opera, but it seems to persist
regardless of browser.

Their reply:

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Mail.

Unfortunately at this time we do not support the Opera browser. However
we thank you for your comments and suggestions. Your input helps us to
constantly improve our services.

In order to have the best experience in Yahoo! Mail, you will need a
JavaScript enabled browser. Depending on the operating system (OS) and
browser version you're currently using, you may be able to upgrade to a
newer browser version with JavaScript. Yahoo! Mail is not compatible
with MSNTV (WebTV).

The two most popular JavaScript Enabled web browsers are Netscape and
Internet Explorer. Both are available as free downloads on the Web.

The Netscape browser can be found at:

http://home.netscape.com/download/

The Internet Explorer browser can be found at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/

For further information concerning JavaScript settings, please refer to
your browser's help section.

5. Scroll to "Active Scripting" and click "Enable", "Allow paste
operations via script", and "Scripting of Java applets".

Currently, Yahoo! Mail sets the message width to break at roughly 72
characters, which is compatible with most monitors. Some monitors,
however, require a shorter or longer message width in order to give
messages a good fit in their text window.

Yahoo! Mail allows you to specify the message width for both sending and
viewing messages. To do this, please follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Yahoo! Mail account.
2. Click the "Mail Options" link on the top right-hand navigation
bar.
3. Click the "General Preferences" link.
4. Scroll down to the "Screen Width" headings.

Note to Color and Graphics users: If you edit the Compose width yet the
Compose field does not appear to be wider, don't be alarmed. The Color
and Graphics version will wrap text according to your width
specifications.

If you need to scroll horizontally to compose or read messages, you
should reduce the appropriate width(s). If you reduce the width for
viewing messages, however, text may appear uneven since the software
does not remove any line breaks. If text appears uneven on a regular
basis, you may want to consider viewing your messages in a smaller font
as an alternative to reducing the message width(s).

If your message composition area or the messages you read are not wide
enough to fit your window, you should increase the width settings. This
will not necessarily increase the width of messages you read, since the
software does not remove any line breaks which may have been inserted by
the sender.

Keep in mind that if an incoming message has HTML formatting, it may be
preformatted to the sender's preferences, and may not adjust properly to
your browser settings. In this case, you may want to read these messages
within a separate frame. To do this, simply place your mouse on the
Subject of the message you wish to read and right-click. A small box
should appear with a list of options. Highlight "Open in New Window" and
this will open your message within a separate window.

Additionally, check to see if any of your email messages have an
unusually lengthy Sender name. This would make it necessary to scroll to
the right to see the Subject heading of your message.

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.

Regards,

Sam

Yes, thank you so much.

1. I said it persisted in other browsers. I'm so sorry I didn't specify what 'other browsers' meant. Clearly I meant SmallpodunkBrowser Version 1.2 :P

2. Javascript? What the frell does that have to do with anything and who the heck doesn't know how to turn Javascript on? It defaults to on, so you have to know what you're doing to turn it off.

3. Yes, thank you so much for telling me how to do the very thing I was complaining was NOT WORKING.

You guys at Yahoo are complete.. well, yahoos.

My 100th review ended up being on Wizard of the Pigeons. Wouldn't say it's one of my better reviews, but so what.

So I'm selling my copy of Lewis Libby's The Apprentice on Ebay. This is my first time doing this, ever I think, but certainly in a long, long time. There's lots of things to do and research. Hopefully I'll have learned something from this and it won't be a costly lesson. If it goes well, I'll consider putting some other auctions up.

So.. go check it out, bid, etc. :)

My brother sent me this. Apparently driver's licenses are now available online. You have to go to the site to get yours removed from the public listing.

K asked if I'd written a review of The Apprentice by Lewis Libby. I hadn't. But now I have. It's not my best review, because I didn't write it fresh after reading the book. But it'll do for government work. Surprisingly it's the only review of the book up on Epinions.

So here's a link to it and my other recent reviews.

Lewis Libby's The Apprentice
Dell Inspiron 1150 - The laptop that looks sexy on television
Pietrisycamollaviadelrechiotemexity in The Hostile Hospital
Zathura? No, Jumanji

This month I'm trying to branch out a bit more and try to write in categories that'll earn me more money. Book reviews make me about 5 cents each the first month and then diddly squat after that. Electronics are supposed to be where it's at. As soon as I figure out what electronics thing I have that I can write a decent amount about without boring myself to death, I will be rolling in dimes!
