02:00 ~ gaze at the moon

My Harry Potter Theory. Don't read it if you don't want to be spoiled for books 6 and 7, because I'm sure I'm right! Okay, well, I kind of hope I'm right anyway, because it explains a few things and will redeem a few things in book 5. What I say will also touch on a spoiler for Episode 3 if you haven't seen that yet and care about spoilers.

Anyway.. rereading SS, this occurred to me. And I'll note it was before I saw Ep 3, though I fully admit it bears a striking resemblence.

Harry's going to go to the Dark Side. Okay, brilliant revelation that, right? But he's been angsty all along and in book 5, he's angry and extra angsty. The adults don't trust him and keep him in the dark. He's got the usual teenage boy angst and anger. Then Sirius goes and dies on him. GRRR. HARRY MAD! Yes, well, perfect time to turn him to the dark side if you're paying attention there, Voldy. Or Peter. Or Lucius. Or even Draco. Anyway..

I believe this is the line that got me thinking about it. From SS/PS, Harry's words: "If I get caught before I can get to the Stone, well, I'll have to go back to the Dursleys and wait for Voldemort to find me there, it's only dying a bit later than I would have, because I'm never going over to the Dark Side!"

Famous last words!

So, after seeing Episode 3, I started thinking about it a bit more. I've long believed he was going to cross the veil, see his dead parents, try (and hopefully succeed!) to rescue Sirius. It's part of the hero's tale, the descent to the underworld, as someone pointed out to me a long while ago. And it makes sense. You can't just push someone through a Veil and tell me he's dead and gone forever. It also 'felt' wrong. Well, anyway..

So Harry falls, only a bit at first I think, to the Dark Side to enable him to rescue Sirius from death. I expect book 6 to be very dark, especially by the end. But hopefully he'll redeem himself in book 7, and without dying.

So that's my theory. And if it bears a striking resemblence to Star Wars, don't blame me! I'd hardly be the first person to compare them and Rowling herself kept using the phrase 'dark side'.

We're left with the question: Will those famous green Lily eyes of his turn red or snakelike?

04:34 ~ gaze at the moon

I started to watch UK Survivor 2. Minor spoilers here. Since I've only watched through episode 2, I can't spoil too much, can I?

It's interesting and a bit different from the US versions. This one only has 12 contestants, which after the last US Survivor, makes me feel like they're missing an entire tribe! We get to hear a few more details and behind the scenes rules stuff. Before they even get to their islands, they're frisked and their stuff searched for contraband. We also get to hear what they're allowed to pack -- they each get some bug spray and malaria pills for one thing. And included in their tribe supplies are tampons and condoms. One tribe doesn't use the tampons as you'd think though.

In general, at least so far, quite a few of them seem rather incompetent. Two seem to get sick right away and a few others do some really stupid things. It makes it more amusing to watch at any rate.

04:04 ~ gaze at the moon

So, yea, here's the stats I fake-posted.

I read 72 books last year. 14 of them were manga. That's 19%.

And I've gotten back into using Epinions, trying to earn a bit of money. So far I've earned 2 cents. But I'll find out in a week to three weeks whether being active will actually earn me anything useful.

You can find my book reviews by going to my read book list and clicking on the titles. I also have a few other reviews if you're interested once you're there. If you're at all interested in getting back into using Epinions, then I recommend my Member Advice post What a Returning Member Needs to Know.

So, again, woot! Blog!
