I've just created a new yahoogroup. I've set new members to moderated and declared that no fanfic be posted to the list. People posting spoilers without proper warning will be strung up. Well, they'll be switched back to moderated. So hopefully it won't be as boring as the Smallvilleslash list.
If you're interested in checking it out, it's josswhedon-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. (The link will take you to the website, not an Email client.)

Okay, here's a list of new shows to keep an eye on.
Firefly - As previously posted. I liked the pilot better than the second episode. But if you take a look at TNG's second episode.. well, it's worth giving it more of a chance. Joss Whedon's stuff is generally ... mmm.. uneven. Funny one week, angsty the next, and every once in awhile, boring.
John Doe - The first episode was more interesting than the second. I'll probably keep watching it though, as it's on after Firefly.
Everwood - Not quite the same tone as 7th Heaven, but definitely a family drama. It's good though and the main kid is into manga. We need to get him out of those Ranma 1/2 Tshirts though.
MDs - Yet another medical show, but this was a bit wacky and rather amusing. It seems to star two guys and I can see slash potential.
Birds of Prey - Not on yet. It's a WB show starring Batgirl in a wheelchair, the daughter of Batman and Catwoman, and some other random chick with superpowers.
Shows to keep watching: Smallville, Buffy, Enterprise, Angel, ER
Creator I most watch: Joss Whedon, obviously
Best network: WB is slightly edging out UPN
Shows that were ended for no good reason: Farscape
Older shows that were ended for no good reason: Alien Nation, Quantum Leap, seaQuest
You'll see that /everything/ I listed above was a drama. Yet which dramas get nominated for Emmies? NONE THAT I WATCH!
Random cartoon I've been watching: Liberty's Kids
Did I forget something important? Let me know.

Okay, here's my review of Firefly.
Definitely a western feel to it. So much so, that you'd think Whedon is snubbing his nose at Roddenberry. The plot of the fire episode was a train robbery!
It suffered from first episode syndrome, but considering they had over 9 characters to introduce, I think you have to forgive them. Let me say first off, that nobody seems to be a stereotype.
Captain - Cavalier sort, but without being over the top about it. Good and bad rolled into one.
First Officer - A strong woman. Not a 'tough as nails' chick, but a truly strong woman. I think Whedon does female chars well. She's married to the pilot.
Pilot - Don't know much about him. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention. He's the pilot and married to the first officer. :)
Engineer - She reminds me of Fred (from Angel, not Weasley), but younger and not as crazy. She has a crush on the doctor.
Doctor - The one character who makes the show seem very Western. He used to be rich, but he ran off with his sister and now they're fugitives.
Doctor's sister - She was in a government institution of some sort. She acts crazy, but probably has some sort of ability. Clairvoyance or who knows what. She's running from these government guys with blue hands. Or something. This /might/ be the 'girl in a box', but I never saw her in any box. :)
"Cosmic Hooker" - Well, not really. More high class than that. Perhaps rather like a geisha. They call her a Companion. There' s a guild. And she looks beautiful, rather than like a bimbo (Seven, T'Pol..).
Guy named Jayne - He's the muscle. Don't know too much about him either.
Priest - Well, some sort of religious guy. You know, the old and wise sort.
I didn't quite catch what all everyone is doing on the ship. Some of them are crew, some are fugitive passengers, the Companion chick has her own shuttle docked to it.
Anyway, lots of interesting characters. Perhaps too many? I may have even forgotten one. I won't discuss the plot of the first episode, in case it reruns and y'all want to watch it then. The good writing and witty dialogue of Whedon is definitely there.
Let's hope Fox doesn't screw it up like it did the commercial.

Thought in the Shower:
Do you think the Ferengi run business schools? Or would they be deemed illegal by the Ferengi government in order to protect species/trade secrets? If illegal, are there then underground, incredibly lucrative Ferengi business schools?

Here's a Yahoo TV blurb. To be fair, Yahoo doesn't write these. They're powered by Gist and Gist probably doesn't even write the summaries. Still, /someone/ did.
Buffy Episode:
"Two to Go"
Willow returns to the use of dark magic to avenge her friend's death.
Hello? Her /friend/? *Snort*

Yahoo is still being a twonk. I finally went in to see if the Sigil lists had been active and I wasn't getting the mail. Sure enough, that was the case. Grrr.
Anyway, this got posted. And I need to include a link in my blog to make my blog interesting, right? So here it is. You'll need a NYTimes login.
