07:06 ~ gaze at the moon

First episode with Spike:

Buffy: Do we really need weapons for this?

Spike: I just like them. They make me feel all manly.

06:32 ~ gaze at the moon

Okay, so let me ramp this up from the beginning.

I happened to have news.yahoo.com open because I was looking up something Asuka said about a soldier in Afghan. So I refreshed it for something to do. Didn't see anything interesting, so I plugged in 'Spiderman' as the first thing I thought of. Didn't find anything terribly interesting until... easter eggs! It was a short article on DVD easter eggs and it sent me off to a webpage to find more. Woo! Okay, so most of the DVDs I own weren't listed or the easter egg was really lame. Anyway, website is here for the curious.

So I run out of interesting things to look at.. because I'm not in the mood for Rocky Horror. And plug in Sailor Moon. I picked a volume at random (well, not totally random, I /thought/ I was grabbing volume 2). Turned out to be volume 3, with /THE/ ep on it. So I started that up. And this is where we get to the meat of the post.

Let me start with another preamble. I've seen this ep raw several times, and dubbed. Other than that, I've read a subtitling script for it. And y'all know my review of the dub. Anyway, never watched any of these subbed ones even though I've owned a bunch for awhile.

Here's the preview for the ep, the subtitles. This is Usagi talking.

"Haruka said that Michiru was 'more than a lover'... Maybe! No! No way! Hey, now. You with the perverted thought over there! In the name of the moon, I'll punish you!"

I'm sorry, but 'more than a lover' does not give /me/ ecchi thoughts. It gives me sappy ones. But don't blame Usagi for not making sense. This was the translator's fault. The word was 'koibito' which is much better translated as girlfriend no matter what the context, but especially that one.

And now some other rants on it..

Eudial became Eugeal for some unknown reason.

Elza Grey became Elsa Gray.

Daimon is Daimohn, which I can't argue with much except that it just looks weird. Pokemon and Digimon don't have an H in them. Maybe they wanted an extra dose of ecchi.

And they keep saying 'track and field' when they really mean 'track' or 'running'.

Okay, no other comments. Except that Haruka and Michiru rock. And I see now that this whole ep was a metaphor for gay people. But we won't get into that.

Final comment: The dvd case has a reversible cover. Normally I wouldn't bother. I like keeping things in their original state. But there was a principle involved here. I couldn't leave it as ChibiMoon when there was a wonderful cousins pose on the other side. So there ya go.

01:54 ~ gaze at the moon

Okay, here's a blog entry.

So what's up with all these commercials using Comic Sans lately? It looks /so/ unprofessional and just plain stupid. I had thought maybe the local cable station or commercial producer or whatever was the one doing it. It showed up on a Bernie and Phyl's graphic for the Kid's Choice Awards. But no, because both Charmin and another toilet paper company did it. And I've seen it on at least two other commercials. So.. what's up with that? Did MS used to own it and now it's free to use on television or something? Copyright or patent expired?

There.
